The Spanish newspaper “El País” acknowledged this Saturday the error published yesterday, after the Portuguese government demanded the urgent and public correction of the title “Portugal orders the confinement of three million Lisboners”.
“It is not a confinement as it is understood in Spain and how this newspaper was published yesterday”, says the correspondent for the Spanish newspaper in Lisbon, in an article entitled “Calamity, contingency and alert, but not confinement”.
The journalist concludes the text by saying that the confinement as it did in Spain “never existed in Portugal, not even during the peak of the pandemic, except for people who tested positive” in the covid-19 test.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) stated that the referred title “is totally false” and argued that, “on the contrary”, the decision of the Council of Ministers determines that “the great part of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (with the with the exception of 19, of the 118 parishes) has passed to a new phase of deflation “, moving” from the “calamity situation” to the “contingency situation”.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs deeply regrets that a newspaper with the prestige and responsibility of El País publishes such a falsehood. And he hopes that he can make the necessary correction with the urgency and publicity that this falsehood requires ”, the text reads.
