El “Mayito Gordo” Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking in California – Telemundo San Antonio (60)

One of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael Zambada Imperial, better known as “El Mayito Gordo,” pleaded guilty in federal court to drug trafficking charges after his extradition to the Southern District of California in December 2019, according to reported the Department of Justice.

It was also agreed that he will pay at least $ 5 million of his drug trafficking profits to the Justice Department.

Zambada Imperial pleaded guilty to all counts in an indictment issued by a federal grand jury in San Diego, California, on July 25, 2014.

The accusation also includes his father, the alleged leader of the cartel, Ismael Zambada García, known as “El Mayo”, as well as his other son, Ismael Zambada Sicairos, “El Mayito Flaco”, and Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, “El Chapito “, son of Joaquín” El Chapo “Guzmán Loera.

Since September 2020, there have been 70 homicides of people linked to the electoral process.

Zambada Imperial was arrested by Mexican authorities in November 2014. Zambada García, Zambada Sicairos and Guzmán Salazar remain at large.

Zambada Imperial appeared before Judge Dana M. Sabraw and accepted his role as leader within the Sinaloa Cartel, acknowledging that he organized the transportation and distribution of thousands of kilograms of controlled substances, including cocaine, heroin, and marijuana for importation from Mexico to USA.

He also admitted to having directed acts of violence with the purpose of promoting the drug trafficking activities of the Sinaloa Cartel. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm before Judge Sabraw.
