Will Smith is one of the characters that young actor Dylan Gilmer sees as his inspiration, not only because he considers him an example of hard work but also because they have in common starring in a show with a very similar plot.
Just as Smith rose to fame with The Prince of Rap in the 1990s, today Dylan is at the helm of Tyler Perry’s young Dylan.
“My character is eight years old and from Chicago, he is also passionate about rap; his grandmother takes him to move in with his uncle and basically turns his life upside down ”, he recounts in an interview.
But the actor who just turned 12 not only identifies his show with Smith’s but also shares that he is very similar in real life to his character.
“We both love rap and I actually started there and then became an actor. I think they should watch it because it’s a family show and it’s really fun and it teaches you to never give up and follow your dreams. “
The series created by Tyler Perry is part of the content that arrived in Mexico this week along with the Paramount + platform.
In this regard, Dylan shares what it meant to work with Perry, in addition to being a show with a cast mostly made up of actors of color.
“When we recorded it I was nervous but happy because it was my dream to do this; When Tyler told me that I was going to have my own show I went crazy and was surprised because I never thought that would happen.
“It tells us more about our culture and where we come from, it’s amazing to have these actors and create this with them.”
