Scotland sensationally defeated Spain 2-0 in the second round of qualifying for Euro 2024. The islanders have been waiting for such a victory for 39 years.
It was the 7th minute of the match at Hampden Park when Pedro Porro slipped under his own penalty area. The Tottenham defender lost the ball to Andy Robertson, and moments later the Spaniards conceded a goal. Scott McTominay scored from Robertson’s pass to make it 1-0.
It was a preview of what we saw on Tuesday night in Glasgow. The team of Luis de la Fuente, who made many changes in the starting lineup compared to the last meeting, was unable to oppose the strong and combative Scots.
The Spaniards only played for a few minutes of the first half in such a way that they could say that they controlled the match. During this period, Joselu had a chance to equalise, but the ball after his shot bounced off the crossbar of the Scottish goal.

After two matches, the Scots lead Group A with six points. Spain has three points, Norway and Georgia have one, and Cyprus has none.
There was a surprise in Group I in Pristina where Kosovo only drew 1-1 with Andorra. The hosts were leading from the 59th minute after Edon Zhegrova’s goal, but two minutes later Berto Rosas equalized. In the same group, Switzerland thrashed Israel 3-0 with goals from Ruen Vargas, Zeki Amdouni and Silvan Widmer, while Romania beat Belarus 2-1.
Switzerland and Romania lead Group I with six points each after two rounds. Kosovo has two points, Andorra and Israel have one each, and Belarus remains without a point.
Group D also played on Tuesday evening. In a more interesting match, Croatia won 2:0 away from Turkey. Mateo Kovacic scored both goals for the bronze medalists of the World Cup. In the second game, Wales won against Latvia thanks to Kieffer Moore’s goal.
Wales and Croatia lead Group D with four points. Türkiye has three points and Armenia and Latvia have zero. The top two teams from each group will advance directly to the European Championships.
