El Clasico in pouring rain. Barcelona beat Real with Lewandowski’s help

El Clasico has been one of the most prestigious matches in the world of football for years. Many fans are willing to spend a fortune to see Real and Barcelona compete live. It is no wonder that the clubs, in order to make money, decided to play each other overseas in preparation for the new season.

The match played on the night from Saturday to Sunday was the first meeting between Barcelona and Real since Hansi Flick became the coach of the former. Among others, Luka Modrić, Thibaut Courtois, Antonio Rudiger, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Robert Lewandowski took to the pitch at MetLife Stadium. However, they were not the heroes of this match, that was the young Barcelona striker Pau Victor.

Heavy rain over the stadium, which is normally the home of the NFL team New York Giants, did not prevent the match from starting on time, but when the downpour turned into a storm in the 13th minute, the referee decided to stop the match. The referee was obliged to do so by American regulations, which require the match to be stopped for at least half an hour after the first signs of a storm. Ultimately, the break in the match lasted over an hour, and the conditions on the pitch were far from optimal when the game returned.

The first goal for Barcelona came in the 42nd minute. Alex Valle made a great cross into the “Royal’s” penalty area. Robert Lewandowski was the first to reach it, passing the ball to Pau Victor. The young striker had no choice but to kick the ball into the empty net.

The fans had to wait until the second half for the next goal. Lewandowski set Valle off with a great pass to the wing, and the 20-year-old delivered a spectacular cross with the outside of his foot to Victor, who finished the move and scored his second goal of the night.

After that goal, the second half turned into a big pre-season test for the players. In total, both coaches made 17 changes. Robert Lewandowski left the pitch in the 77th minute when he was replaced by Vitor Roque.

The only goal for Real was scored by Nico Paz, who had been brought onto the pitch fifteen minutes earlier. The unattended Argentinean reached the ball from a corner kick and placed it in the Blaugrana goal with a spectacular pike, making the score 2:1.
