Stop Ovid Guzmanson of a famous drug kingpin Mexico, Joaquin Guzman or ‘El Chapo‘ which sparked a riot, it wasn’t the first time. Mexican authorities arrested Ovidio in 2019 but were forced to release him again after being a member Sinaloa drug cartel sparked a riot.
As reported New York TimesFriday (01/06/2023), the arrest of Ovidio for the second time in an operation that took place on Thursday (01/05) local time, provided the government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador with the opportunity to remedy its failures three years ago.
The figure of Ovid himself is also a well-known cartel leader in Mexico. After being arrested, according to Mexican Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval, Ovidio was immediately transferred to the special prosecutor’s office in the capital Mexico City.
The Guzman family has a long history of fleeing Mexican authorities. El Chapo himself has twice escaped from prison, before now he languished in a federal prison of the United States (USA).
US federal prosecutors have previously said El Chapo’s children helped plan his escape from maximum security prison in 2015, through a 1.6-kilometer tunnel dug from the shower area in his cell to the prison exterior.
In October 2019, Ovidio was captured by Mexican security forces who raided Culiacan, the headquarters of the Sinaloa drug cartel. But soon the Mexican authorities were forced to release him when a group of armed men from the Sinaloa cartel unleashed a wave of riots.
Gunmen from the Sinaloa Cartel launched gunfire attacks in the city, setting fire to cars and taking several members of the Mexican security forces hostage.
