Eko Yuli Irawan’s Disappointing Performance at Asian Games 2023

Hangzhou

Lifter Indonesia Eko Yuli Irawan failed to win a medal in Asian Games 2023. Appearing in the men’s 67 kg class, he was unable to lift clean and jerk.

Appearing at the Xiaoshan Sports Center Gymnasium, on Sunday (1/10/2023), Eko was supposed to have recorded the best snatch lift of 145 kg. He tried the third lift with 148 kg, but he failed to execute it.

Unfortunately, in the clean and jerk lift, the 34 year old athlete also failed to lift 175 kg. Even on three tries.

This result was certainly unexpected, because Eko is one of Indonesia’s mainstays in winning medals. If you compare it with the results at the World Championships, Riyadh, on September 14-17, Eko recorded a total lift of 321 kg in the 67 kg class.

The details are 146 kg for the snatch and 175 kg for the clean and jerk and are entitled to a silver medal.

Meanwhile, Lijun Chen from China is the best lifter at the Asian Games currently. He recorded the best snatch lift of 150kg, as well as a record for the 2023 Asian Games.

It didn’t stop there, the total lift recorded by the 30 year old lifter also set a new record of 325kg. With details, 150 kg snatch and 175 kg clean and jerk.

Chen still has two chances in the force clean and jerk. He succeeded in lifting 180 kg on the third attempt, while also sharpening the game record for the total lifting in his own name, namely 330 kg.
