As part of EK Retail’s “Green Friday 2023” campaign, the participating specialist retailers have set a green exclamation mark parallel to the “Black Week” from November 13th to 26th, 2023: The link to the sale or repair of large appliances from leading manufacturers, strollers and Children’s car seats and lights with the promise of planting a tree for each have now led to the reforestation of over 9,500 trees and thus around 38,000 square meters of forest.
“This great result shows that even at the end of a really difficult year, customers and entrepreneurs have not lost sight of what is important and are taking responsibility for nature together with us,” says Jochen Pohle, Chief Retail Officer (CRO) at EK Retail, with a total of 9,534 new trees. Enough for an area the size of four and a half football fields!
The household appliance and kitchen experts from electroplus küchenplus, the partners from the licht+concept specialist group and the Happy Baby Houses took part again this time. Support also came from the players in the EK marketing initiative “Strong Specialist Retail” from the living and fashion sectors as well as the booksellers from the EK subsidiary Buchwert GmbH: everyone contributed with a generous donation.
“Not to forget our many industrial partners who actively supported the whole campaign with their top products. Thank you for that!” says Jochen Pohle, referring to the commitment of the participating manufacturers.
The Teutoburg Forest continues to grow
The tree seedlings were planted in the ground at the beginning of February. In close cooperation with the local reforestation company climatebloom, they became part of a new, natural and climate-stable mixed forest in the Teutoburg Forest. In the last two years, 17,900 trees have been planted here following the EC’s previous “Green Friday” campaigns. With the current “yield”, this number grew to a total of over 27,000 trees and 109,000 square meters of forest area with the active help of the EK team.
“Get to work” was the order of the day for the EK team and some of the affiliated EK trading partners, who insisted on planting some of the seedlings on site themselves.
