The Eisbären Berlin strengthen their offensive with Frans Nielsen. The striker last played in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings.

The Dane began his career with his home team, Herning, with whom he won the championship straight away in his first professional season at the age of 17. In 2002 Nielsen was drafted by the New York Islanders in 87th position, but played four seasons in Sweden after the draft. From 2006 he initially played for the New York Islanders for ten years in the best ice hockey league in the world and from 2016 wore the jersey of the Detroit Red Wings for five more seasons. In these 15 years, the 37-year-old played a total of 949 NHL games, in which he collected 171 goals and 311 assists. For Detroit, Nielsen has served as assistant captain for the past three seasons. A function that he has already performed four seasons in New York. At the World Cup of Hockey 2016 he was part of Team Europe, which took second place in this tournament. Nielsen has represented his home country Denmark at eight World Championships and once at the Division IA World Cup. With the Danish national team, the 1.84 meter tall and 85 kilogram heavy center qualified for the Olympic Games in 2022 in the summer.
