Leipzig (dpa/lhe) – – The women’s soccer team of Eintracht Frankfurt surprisingly failed in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. Second-placed in the Bundesliga, they lost 2-1 (1-0) to second-division leaders RB Leipzig on Saturday and were eliminated. National team Laura Freigang put the Hessians ahead in the 19th minute, but after the break Marlene Müller turned the game around in favor of the hosts with a double goal (55’/89′).
Coach Niko Arnautis’ team will continue in the Bundesliga next Saturday with a home game against Bayer Leverkusen. With 17 points, the Frankfurt women are currently in second place behind champions VfL Wolfsburg (21), with whom they are due to play on 3 December.
