Eintracht Frankfurt fans sprayed dozens of distribution boxes around the city. The owners take it easy.
Frankfurt – The redesign took place in a night and spray action. Dozens of cable distribution cabinets in the Frankfurt city area were redesigned. Ultras from Eintracht Frankfurt have apparently discovered the uniform gray boxes as advertising space for their club. Eintracht fans are certainly talking about an improvement, everyone else shrugs their shoulders. At least the concerted action did not cause too much excitement among the owners of the cupboards.
When asked by FR, the energy supplier Süwag pointed out that it wanted to specifically prevent such spraying campaigns, for example by encouraging schools or social institutions to contribute to the beautification of the dreary gray boxes. For this, it is said, the boxes would even be prepared and paint made available. In the present cases, however, there was no encouragement, the Ultras apparently had color themselves.

Telekom is pursuing a similar approach for its tavern and says it has had “good experiences” with the “Gray becomes colorful” campaign. In the process, the boxes are painted in a coordinated artistic design. Marked in this way, they would “usually be respected by other artists,” says Telekom.
If cable distribution cabinets are sprayed without prior approval, Süwag will check how to proceed on a case-by-case basis. “The focus is on electrical safety, which must never be compromised,” it says. Legal action would only be taken if safety was at risk or if ethical principles were violated. The Eintracht motives do not violate ethical principles, at least according to the prevailing opinion in the Frankfurt city area. In Offenbach or Darmstadt that might be seen differently. However, since even people who no longer keep it with harmony, at least have to admit that it is not a question of stupid graffiti, Süwag announced that it would not take action in the cases at hand.
Mainova: Non-critical content will be “cleaned promptly”
The answers at Mainova, which owns several hundred such distribution cabinets in the city, are similar. “Discriminatory or similar degrading motifs will be removed immediately after they become known or discovered.” Even if accessibility to the technology is endangered, immediate action will be taken. In principle, the company makes it clear: “The artistic design of low-voltage distributors or substations owned by Mainova/NRM Netzdienste Rhein-Main is strictly prohibited.”
Mainova points out that there is the possibility of renting the boxes as advertising space as part of a city-wide tender. According to the Mainova, not entirely surprisingly, the Eintracht Ultras had not participated in such a Europe-wide tender. How exactly the company reacted to the spraying campaign was left open, since it was initially not clear whether and if so how many boxes were affected. In principle, uncritical content would be “usually cleaned promptly” after it was reported or discovered. (Oliver German)
Even the still incomplete expansion of the north-west curve cannot cloud the anticipation of the new season at Eintracht Frankfurt.
