Eintracht can underpin their own Champions League ambitions against Wolfsburg. They gained this position through a strong second half of the season, the face of which has a name: Filip Kostic.
Superheroes have been popular, well-known and real box office hits among film fans for decades. But the superheroes are also very popular among football fans. After “Batman and Robin” in Dortmund (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus) there is a new hero in this country. “Mr. Laser” from Main, Filip Kostic, causes a sensation in the second half of the season at Eintracht Frankfurt and stands next to Andre Silva like no other for the Adler’s success.
Sky expert Dietmar Hamann finally discovered and named the Serbian superpower: “His left foot is like a laser. Kostic is currently one of the best wingers in the world.” Hamann raves about the precision with which Kostic dismantles his opponents and serves his teammates. “As far as accuracy is concerned, Filip is back where he has been before. He is in top shape, that is incredibly important,” said Hamann at Sky.
Kostic upswing = flight of unity
Hamann alludes to the first half of the season, in which the laser foot first failed due to an internal ligament injury and then found it difficult to return to the form that had made it so strong in previous years.
But since Kostic has been on the up, the eagles have also started flying high, which they are currently on. The point yield from the first half of the season (27 points in 17 games) has almost stopped after ten games (23 points) in the second half of the season.
This precision, which Kostic brings, was lacking in the Frankfurt team at the end of 2020 when they failed to win nine league games in a row and drew seven of them. Nothing reminds of this phase in Frankfurt. Also because Kostic puts his teammates in the limelight.
Nobody prepared so many goals in 2021
Mr. Laser prepares like no other. Ten assists in 2021 alone are top values in Europe’s top 5 leagues. Only on the last matchday against Dortmund Kostic put on two goals again and was thus significantly involved in the 2-1 victory and gave the SGE a brilliant starting position in the fight for the CL places.
Just because Kostic only managed one template in the first half of the season, the Serb is behind Bayern’s Thomas Müller (15 assists) in the template ranking. The Bayern professional is also the only one who surpasses Kostic when it comes to passes to a shot (76:68).
By far the most crosses
Kostic is not topped with the number of flanks. There he leads the table in front of Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa with 155 crosses from the game (106). A little more than a quarter of his flanks also reach a teammate – a decent rate compared to his competitors.
On Saturday too, Eintracht is building on his precise passes and flanks as well as on his speed (personal top value: 34.9 km / h). Then the eagles want to play against the wolves from Wolfsburg (live and exclusively on Sky Sport Bundesliga 3 HD) score points to get another big step closer to the premier class.
