Regional league team Eintracht Frankfurt II is, completely surprisingly, in first place. The guarantee for the league lead is goal scorer Noel Futkeu.
He scores and scores and scores: Noel Futkeu is in excellent shape for Eintracht Frankfurt’s U21s.
On Friday evening, the striker decided the top game against the Stuttgarter Kickers with the winning goal in the 74th minute for Frankfurt and shot his team into first place in the table after eight match days.
Futkeu played a big part in the promoted team getting off to such a great start to the season: eight games, ten goals, three assists. The 20-year-old is the best goalscorer and at the same time the top scorer in the Regionalliga Südwest.
In an interview with RevierSport, the Essen native didn’t want to rate his own achievements too highly and instead praised his teammates. “I benefit a lot from my teammates, who present me very well. My personal goal rate is really good and I don’t need to downplay that. But as I said: I benefit a lot from my team,” explained Futkeu.
The Frankfurt U21 got 16 points from the last six games and climbed to first place thanks to this winning streak. But nobody would take off, as Futkeu emphasized: “The fact that we are currently top of the table is a nice snapshot for us. But we can classify that very well as newcomers. We want to continue to play our games successfully and continue to develop.”
As a reward for his strong performances and great goal rate, the lightning-quick and strong striker was able to play a test match with the professionals during the international break. Futkeu came on as a substitute in the duel against second division team Wehen Wiesbaden (3:1). A special moment for the 20-year-old, who moved from ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen to Frankfurt before the season as the reigning top league top scorer (30 goals).
“I’ve trained with the professionals a few times now and I really enjoy it because you can compete with experienced players,” continued Futkeu. One thing is clear: Dino Toppmöller, coach of the Eintracht professionals, has long had his eye on the goalscorer.
The biggest dream for me remains the Bundesliga. That has always been my dream. But I’m very patient with this topic.
To Noel Futke.
The attacker made his professional debut in 2020 in the Rot-Weiss Essen jersey in the DFB Cup first round game against Arminia Bielefeld (1-0). At that time he was only 17 years old.
If Futkeu has his way, this wasn’t his last appearance on the big stage. The 1.83 meter man said about his goals: “The biggest dream for me remains the Bundesliga. That has always been my dream. But I am very patient when it comes to this topic. My focus at the moment is only on the U21 of Eintracht Frankfurt , where I would like to continue in the same way. The rest will take care of itself.”
