‘Eindhoven’s best kept secret’ revealed: entire city under skylight

Normally, the multi-day Glow attracts about 750,000 people, who walk a route past various light artworks. Because of corona, such a celebration was not planned this year. “With this artwork we want to bring the event to as many people as possible”, says Maas.

From April onwards, thought has been given to what a safe light artwork for the entire city could look like. When the design was ready, the biggest challenge was to keep the project secret. This was necessary because the organization wants to prevent a large influx of people. The lights have to be switched off when it is too busy.

“Of course we consulted a lot with the municipality, security services and buildings. Fortunately everyone kept their mouths shut,” says Maas. Yet according to artist Schoofs there was already talk of the necessary ‘buzz‘in his town. “The light was already tested on Tuesday and since Monday we have been hanging about 1000 balloons. It’s hard to hide that.”
