Eikrem cannon breathed new life into the gold fight – Fire in real crisis – VG

BERGEN (VG) (Brann – Molde 0–1) Magnus Wolff Eikrems (31) dream scoring at Brann Stadion means that the gold match lives on with two series rounds left. For Brann, it looks dark.

After relegation competitor Stabæk played a draw in the away match against Tromsø, it was clear that Brann would take over the qualifying place with a victory over Molde.

This was not the case, and with the loss, the Bergen club still has three points up to Stabæk. Thus, they must hope that the Bears give points in the last matches, at the same time as they themselves pick the necessary points.

– We’re playing an ok match. We create chances to score goals, but it will not be completely. It was a fantastic save on one, and the post on another. It feels a bit heavy, and I have a feeling that we are doing enough to score and to be able to win the match. It is perhaps the quality of the latter that is missing, says Branns Mathias Rasmussen to VG.

– I have played a few seasons in Start and North Zealand, and I have not experienced such bad luck simply. Of course, it is the quality of the finishes that is sometimes crucial, but there is an incredible amount of rod out. I do not know if I can call it bad luck, says Rasmussen.

– It’s about quality, and then it’s a bit about self-confidence in the crucial moments, says Brann coach Eirik Horneland.

– There are still opportunities. Now we have to go up to Bodø and deliver a good performance, and hopefully we are in the fight after that, says Brann striker Aune Heggebø.

After Bodø / Glimt gave up two points against Rosenborg, it differed only six points from the league leaders from Bodø and table runners-up Molde before the latter’s away match against Brann.

There, Wolff Eikrem secured the victory with his magnificent goal after an hour played, and thus Molde has three points up to Bodø / Glimt and the gold with two series rounds left.

– It is one of the most beautiful goals I have scored. With the left too, it is a long time ago, Eikrem says to VG about the scoring.

– It does not surprise me. Magnus is probably 29 (31, editor’s note), and he stays every day to practice such things. Many have something to learn there. It’s not like he gets it for free. These are simply skills that he has worked with for a long time, says Molde coach Erling Moe to VG about Eikrem.

The Molde coach is happy that there is life in the gold match with two rounds left.

– Then we get to make sure we do our job. We are not in control of the situation. We can hope for some rubber feet up in Bodø. It’s funny that there’s a little fire in the tent before the last two rounds.

The first half waved back and forth under the floodlights at Brann Stadium, and it was the guests from Molde who got the first big goal chance. Rafik Zekhnini put the ball into the box, Ohi Omoijuanfo got a foot on it, a Brann defense got cleared.

After half-time, the guests were again dangerously ahead. Magnus Wolff Eikrem did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. A TV save from Brann goalkeeper Lennart Grill prevented scoring.

Then Brann got up, and Aune Heggebø got the hosts’ first opportunity. Bård Finne stormed into the Molde field, before leaving for Heggebø. The fire striker hit well, but had to see that the ball went via a Molde foot before it hit the post.

LOST OPPORTUNITY: Fire striker Aune Heggebø despaired when he saw the ball go on outside the post of Molde goalkeeper Andreas Linde.

Sivert Heltne Nilsen was out with suspension, and Brann coach Eirik Horneland chose to start with Vajebah Sakor in the anchor role in the middle. The 25-year-old had only played 24 minutes earlier in the season, but contributed greatly to Brann taking over much of the game in the last half of the first half.

The former Juventus and Vålerenga player strewn several good passes, fired off some scary shooting attempts, and had many important defensive contributions before the break.

FIRST START: Vajebah Sakor started his first Brann match and delivered well the 65 minutes he was on the field.

After the break, Molde created several dangers, before the score was a quarter of an hour into the second half.

Wolff Eikrem got the ball on the outside of the corner of the Brann field, before he bent the ball in the opposite corner in a brilliant way.
