The recently created Umbra Theater company opens on the stage of the Almagro Corral de Comedias this August with the play ‘La Celestina’.
For 18 Saturdays, from August 13 to December 17, the company presents through this theatrical classic an approach to other topics of current interest. “The work treasures the classic text and the themes that its author printed under the direction of the renowned Javier Mañón”, explains Umbra Teatro. Her director shows the interior of Celestina, beyond the fame of old pimp and interested.
Javier Mañón, artistic director of Umbra Teatro, explains that “with this work we present a deeply human and accessible Celestina, as smiling, protective and generous with her own as she is cold and imperturbable with outsiders. The show is full of living, human characters that anyone would identify today on the street, or even in our home. We are very proud of the result and look forward to seeing viewers enjoy it during the upcoming theater season.”
The new company will also focus on lesser-known classics
Thus, the director together with three other artists, Covadonga Calderón, Gema Baos and Vicente Nové, have founded a new theater company that will transfer the most famous classics and others not so studied to the stage of the Corral de Comedias de Almagro.
With extensive theatrical experience, its members have long professional careers that guarantee the quality of all future shows produced by Umbra Teatro. From the artistic direction by Javier Mañón, with more than 30 years in the theater sector, through Covadonga Calderón and Vicente Nové, specialists in classical theater and known for their long career on the Castilian-Manchego stages, up to Gema Baos, actress with extensive training in acting and theater production.
