The Public Prosecution Service has demanded eight years in prison and TBS with forced nursing against a man who attacked his wife with multiple knives. That happened in 2019 in a toilet of the Groene Hart Hospital in Gouda.
He was waiting for his wife after her hospital appointment and is said to have stabbed her several times with two knives. Although the woman survived the attack, the 48-year-old man is suspected of attempted murder.
The Syrian couple had relationship problems and the woman was considering divorce, much to the husband’s anger. Two weeks before the attack, he was given a restraining order because he had threatened to kill his wife if she left him at the municipality.
Twelve stab wounds
According to the OM, the suspect tried to give his wife a gold bracelet before the attack. When she refused to accept it, he allegedly attacked her with two knives. He bought it prior to the attack.
“The suspect has brutally tried to take his wife’s life,” the prosecutor said during the hearing. “After the first knife was bent from stabbing, he took a second knife and then re-inserted it on the victim.” According to the OM, the woman suffered twelve stab wounds.
The man would have shouted “I want to get rid of you” while stabbing. He also filmed a large part of the stabbing and called a cousin afterwards to tell them that he had slaughtered his wife, reports Broadcaster West.
In addition to a prison sentence, the Public Prosecution Service also demands tbs with forced nursing. The likelihood of recurrence would be high, as the suspect would not realize he needs treatment and minimize his own role.
