Delhi: Gujarat had a thrilling victory over Himachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. After losing the toss, Gujarat were bowled out for 327 in 49 overs. Urvil Patel scored a century and led Gujarat to a good score. In reply, Himachal was all out for 319 in 49.5 overs. With this, Gujarat qualified for the pre-quarters. Himachal will come out.
The bowling performance of Himachal pacer Arpit Guleria was noticed more than the match result. Guleria took eight out of ten wickets in Gujarat’s loss. Arpit conceded 50 runs in nine overs and dismissed eight men. This is the best performance by a pacer in List A cricket. The best List A performance by an Indian pacer was Hyderabad’s Shoaib Ahmed, who dismissed seven for 15 runs. In 2009, Shoaib took seven wickets against Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, spinners Shahbaz Nadeem (8/10) and Rahul Sanghvi (8/15) took eight wickets.
Bengal will be Gujarat’s opponent in the first pre-quarter. Kerala will face Maharashtra in another pre-quarter. If Kerala wins in the pre-quarters, they will face Rajasthan in the quarter-finals. The winners of Pre Quarter 1 will play against Haryana. Mumbai will face Tamil Nadu in the other quarter. Karnataka’s opponent is Vidarbha. Karnataka went directly to the quarter-finals as the best runners-up in all five groups. They have 24 points after losing only one match.
In the last match in Group A, Kerala lost to Railways. Captain Sanju Samson (128 off 139 balls) scored a century but Kerala lost against Railways by 18 runs. Railways set a target of 256 runs after losing the toss and batting at Kini Sports Arena ground, Chikanahalli. Sahab Yuvraj Singh’s century (121 not out from 136 balls) led the Railways to the best score. In reply, Kerala managed to score 237 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Apart from Sanju, Shreyas Gopal (53) played a decisive role. After completing all seven matches in the group stage, Kerala is at the top with 20 points with five wins.
