JAKARTA – At least one person was killed and 12 others injured, in eight separate location shooting incidents that rocked Phoenix, Arizona, United States on Thursday, June 17 local time.
“Four people were shot, one dead, when a gunman opened fire in the northwest suburbs of Phoenix on Thursday,” local police said.
Banner Health officials said its three hospitals had received nine patients. Two at Banner Boswell, three patients at Banner Thunderbird, and four at Banner Del Webb.
It is not known whether the patient had gunshot wounds or other injuries as a result of this indiscriminate shooting incident.
Banner Health officials, citing privacy laws, said they could not provide additional information about the patients.
Sgt Brandon Sheffert of the Peoria Police Department told a news conference that nine other people were injured by shrapnel and debris.
Sheffert said the shootings lasted more than an hour in Glendale, Peoria and Surprise, three cities northwest of Phoenix, in the area known as the west valley.
Peoria is about 9 miles east of Surprise, which is about 45 minutes from downtown Phoenix. Meanwhile, Glendale stretches to the south and east of the two cities.
“We have a total of eight shooting incidents so far. Police arrested the suspect in Surprise after his vehicle was found by firefighters,” he said.
Sheffert explained that the alleged shooter did not resist when he was arrested. A firearm was also found in the vehicle he was driving.
Aerial video from CNN affiliate KPHO / KTVK showed a white SUV with open doors that the news station described as the suspect’s vehicle.
Officials said they did not believe there was more than one shooter and were shocked by this.
“There is no reason for the public to feel unsafe at this time,” said Police Sgt. Tommy Hale. For the purposes of the investigation, the FBI was deployed with the local police.
