REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ACCRA – At least eight people in the Savannah Area in Ghana The north died from a suspected yellow fever infection, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said on Friday evening. GHS said that the victims, who were all nomads in the region, had never been injected with the yellow fever vaccine.
“The disease is suspected yellow fever and samples have been sent for final confirmation. Tests for other viral diseases such as Ebola, Lassa, Marburg and Zika were all negative,” the GHS said.
Yellow fever is a viral disease that spreads through mosquito bites and is common in parts of Africa and South America. Symptoms include fever and jaundice at first and then bleeding from the nose and mouth, and vomiting blood.
Vaccination is the main preventive measure recommended against the disease.
