Eight Passengers Stranded Upside Down on Crandon Roller Coaster for Hours: Mechanical Failure Causes Carnvial Ride Breakdown

The attraction promised thrills, and the eight passengers of this carousel were served. At a carnival in the northern US state of Wisconsin, a ride broke down in the middle of a loop, local TV reported WJFWrelayed by CNN.

On several videos taken by witnesses and shared on social networks, the five wagons of the train are blocked in the air at a height of about thirty meters. The passengers are all upside down, with their harnesses as their only security, at the top of the loop.

According to a statement from the emergency services, the distress call was made fifteen minutes after the start of the breakdown. The first victim was only able to be extracted at 3:20 p.m., two hours after the start of the breakdown. Being obliged to act passenger by passenger, the firefighters freed the last person trapped around 5 p.m., more than 3:30 after the fact.

“A mechanical failure”

“Everyone seems to be doing the best they can given the circumstances,” said Fire Captain Brennan Cook at WJFW. The eight passengers were taken care of by a medical team. Only one of them was hospitalized in a local hospital in Rhinelander, 40 km from the funfair.

Regarding the reasons for this failure, the person in charge of the rescue operation explains that the carousel “experienced a mechanical failure which blocked it in an upright position”, while insisting on the fact that it had been “recently inspected on place by the State of Wisconsin”.
