Nearly 80% of Dutch companies are working on sustainability, Statistics Netherlands reported on Thursday. Most of these companies have mainly taken energy measures this year. Many companies are also trying to reduce emissions of harmful substances and recycle more.
Examples of measures that are taken include transporters switching to electric cars or companies that have installed solar panels.
Unsurprisingly, companies are choosing to become more sustainable. Energy prices have risen since May last year, but this trend has been accelerated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Of those who have not greened their business operations this year, 13 percent cite too little money as the biggest obstacle. This is especially a problem for entrepreneurs in the hospitality, culture, sports and leisure sectors. An almost as large group sees too little sustainability benefits.
