Eight officers injured, thousands on their feet in vaccine passport protest London | Abroad

The officers were pelted with bottles and other objects in the park. Two officers eventually had to go to hospital, but they were not seriously injured, police said. The policemen eventually managed to disperse the crowd with batons.

Thus ended a day of massive protest grimly. The riots followed a Unite For Freedom march through London in which thousands of Britons gathered to agitate against the announced vaccine passports. They are under fire after a British watchdog stated that this measure would be illegal, with which The Guardian turned out on the front page. The vaccine passport could also cause a split in society.

Protesters carried flags and signs with ‘no new normal’ and ‘no vaccine passports’. They included TV host Beverly Turner and two London mayoral candidates, Piers Corbyn and Laurence Fox.

The protesters were not wearing face masks. Some of them are said to have harassed people during the march who did wear masks outside, which is mandatory in London.
