During the five public holidays from 23 to 27 June, four people died in the fires and 18 people were rescued, four of whom were injured and handed over to the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) for doctors. In turn, from water bodies State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) highlighted eight people killed during the holidays, the VUDG informed the Delfi portal.

On Midsummer night, a total of 69 misleading calls for fires were received – most from 10 pm to midnight, when the fire and smoke had alarmed the population.
Due to the damage caused by storms and strong winds, the SFRS received 109 calls – mainly, broken trees were removed from the roadway. In eight cases, the trees had fallen on the buildings.
On June 27, at 00.38, SFRS received a call in Valka, where the apartment door in the area of 0.1 square meters burned in a three-storey residential building. Firemen one person who had been injured and handed over to the medics was evacuated from the smoked apartment.
Five more people had evacuated the building before the SFRS arrived. At 01.19, SFRS completed the work at the scene.
On June 26, at 6.26 in Jaunjelgava region, a dead person was lifted from the river and handed over. State Police employees. At 8.22, the SFRS completed its work at the scene.
On this day, three more dead people were lifted from the water bodies – in Rēzekne region from a pond, in Liepāja from a canal, in Pļaviņas region from a river, in Carnikava region from a lake.
On June 23, after a two-day search, the deceased was taken out of the Gauja.
During the holidays, the SFRS extinguished several high-risk fires. On June 24, it had stood out in Ogresgala parish, where a barn and firewood with a total area of 400 square meters burned. The firefighters localized the fire at 4.25 and it was extinguished at 11.44.
Also, on June 24, at 19.24, a call was received to Jūrmala, where a barn and the attic of a house with a total area of 350 square meters burned. One person was evacuated from an adjacent building. At 23.02 the fire was extinguished.
On June 23, at 10.38 pm, an invitation was received to Kalnciema Street in Riga, where raw materials and factory equipment in the area of 40 square meters burned on the third floor of the three-storey production building. At 1.41 this high-risk fire was extinguished.
During the festive holidays, firefighters helped a person in Vecumnieki municipality who had entered the forest and was unable to get out of it due to health problems. Help was also needed for a person in Aglona region, where a person had to be taken to the shore from a swampy lake.
Also on June 22, information was received that in Daugavpils and Malnava parish sulfuric acid was leaking from the upper valve of the railway tank. VAS “Latvian railway“Employees pumped sulfuric acid (500 liters in Daugavpils and 780 liters in Malnava parish) from another damaged tank to another tank.
The SFRS demarcated the territory, cooled the railway tanks with chemical substances, neutralized the spilled sulfuric acid, and decontaminated the equipment and the tank.
In the past days, between 06.30 on 22 June and 06.30 on 28 June, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received 685 calls – 179 for firefighting, nine of which were forest fires, 362 for rescue operations, but 144 calls were deceptions.
