Eiffel Tower Hit by Lightning in Paris Storms: Stunning Images Captured

Storms hit the French capital and its outskirts late on May 1. Even the iconic Eiffel Tower was struck by lightning.

The skies were released this Wednesday, May 1, over Paris, and several lightning bolts were found in the Ile-de-France region when violent electrical storms crossed the north of the country.

Five victories per year

In the French capital, the Eiffel Tower was struck by lightning. Photographers and internet users were able to capture impressive images.

This is not the first time this phenomenon has happened. “Since its birth in 1889, the monument ‘attracts’ lightning during thunderstorms: on average there are five strikes a year,” reads its official website.

Traffic problems

In addition to these beautiful images, the storms in the area have also caused many traffic problems at airports, and several flights have been diverted.

Météo-France’s forecasts were clear: in the regions placed on orange alert until 3 a.m. Thursday, the thunderstorms were expected to be “fierce with intense precipitation, moderate fog, wind gusts.” And with “electrical activity” also “marked,” the group warned.

In the Haute-France region, a 57-year-old woman died after a mudslide in Courmelles, near Soissons. Her husband was also injured.
