French authorities evacuated the Eiffel Tower after a man was spotted climbing the monument hours before the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games on Sunday.
It is not clear where the man, who was shirtless, started climbing, but he was spotted directly above the Olympic rings that adorn the second section of the monument, just above the first level.
The Eiffel Tower is not expected to be used for the closing ceremony, which will take place at the Stade de France and will start around 22:00 (Greece time) on Sunday.
As the Associated Press reports, more than 30,000 police officers have been deployed across Paris and beyond the French capital to monitor the final Olympic events and Sunday’s closing ceremony.
