Patricia reached the Eiduka Centennial competition of more than 2,700 skiers a year and a half ago, but last December was already in the top seventy. Now, for the first time in her career, the winner of the 2020 “Athlete of the Year in Latvia” title has reached the best sixty. Both the acclaimed performance shown in the World Cup stages and the great starts in the strong FIS competitions in the Nordic countries have helped to achieve this. The Latvian, who has twice entered the top ten of this year’s U23 Championship, is ranked 59th in the distance with a rating of 40 FIS points. In Sprint, Patricia has 56 FIS points and 71st place. With its achievements, Eiduka has taken care of three more places for Latvians to participate in the Olympic Games.
Next to Eiduka is Kitty Auziņa, who also started in FIS in December. Madonna is the best in both disciplines in the five hundred, and in the distance near the three hundred. Auziņa, with a rating of 83 FIS points, which is so high due to the roller skating competition, takes the 334th place in the distance, but in the sprint with the 172 FIS points, it is the 487th place. The third is the successful biathlon Baiba Bendika, who has earned a 98 FIS points rating and is ranked 457th. The other Latvians are much further away.
There is also one strong leader in our men’s competition, who is well ahead of the others. Raimo Vīgants is the 9th place winner of the 2020 U23 World Championship. Although Madonna has been helped in the high ranking by the summer roller skating competition, he has also earned good points in the World Cup stages in Finland and Switzerland. Raimo is still close to two hundred in the distance with 43 FIS points – in 238th place, but in the sprint with 93 FIS points he is in 278th place. With this performance, Raimo has secured an additional second place for Latvia in the Olympic Games.
Unfortunately, other Latvians are much lower. In the distance, the next representative of Latvia in the world rank is more than five hundred places behind Vīgants and is in the eighth century, but in the sprint – a few hundred behind Raimo and outside the five hundred.
