Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said the government had officially set a time Holiday Together Eid 2023 to April 19-25, 2023.
Initially, the joint holiday of Lebaran 2023 was set for April 21, 24, 25 and 26 in accordance with Ministerial SKB 3 of 2023. Muhadjir mentioned that the joint holiday has now been increased to April 19, 20, 21, 24, and 25.
“In this case, the collective leave is shifted forward plus one day on April 19 2023. Apart from being brought forward, there is one day shifted from the back to the front, plus one more day. And there is one additional Eid holiday in 2023,” said Muhadjir in His office, Wednesday (29/3).
Muhadjir said this decision was made in a meeting with Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, and Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Muhammad Azwar Anas.
“The addition of this joint leave makes the Eid homecoming trip run better, more mature, so it can avoid traffic jams,” he said.
Previously, the government decided that the 2023 Eid al-Fitr holidays would start from April 19 to April 26. The decision was made in a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta chaired by President Joko Widodo.
“Earlier, there was a decision by the President regarding joint leave. The holiday has been advanced by two days. So, starting on the 19th, you will have a holiday, 20 will have a holiday, but 26 will be included. [April],” said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Friday (24/3).
The decision stems from a suggestion by Budi Karya and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. They proposed that the joint Eid leave be added and brought forward to prevent traffic jams.
“Now the leave is in accordance with the SKB of 3 ministers from the 21st to the 26th (April),”
Budi said the new schedule for joint leave could reduce the buildup of vehicles during homecoming. The government predicts that residents will start going home from April 18 afternoon with this new schedule.
The homecoming flow is predicted to last for four days until April 21. Thus, travelers have more time to go to their respective hometowns.
Budi said the new schedule for joint leave had been officially set. He and Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Azwar Anas will issue a new joint decree.
“Because it has been decided in this limited meeting, de facto it has happened, it remains de jure for us to submit a proposal to the President and I think we will have a meeting with three ministries,” he said.
