EICMA 2020: sad news for lovers of two wheels

The anti-contagion provisions and rules of Coronavirus continue to be followed, even the events scheduled for the next few months have already been postponed. Among these we see EICMA, the cycle and motorcycle show.

The 78th edition that was expected to take place in November 2020 was postponed directly to 2021, a one-year leap for the appointment which, until a few days ago, was scheduled from 3 to 8 November. This year the Fiera Milano pavilions in Rho will not hear the roar of the most fascinating two-wheeled engines on display.

The cancellation of the 2020 event is due, once again (it is from February-March that we witness the cancellation of all the scheduled events) to the disastrous health emergency that has hit all Italy and the whole world, he explained the Chief Executive Officer Paolo Magri. Here are his words.

“The value and international leadership of our exhibition event prompted us not to bet on the health evolution linked to theCovid-19 emergency and, above all, to listen to and protect the entire two-wheeler industry which, with Fiera Milano in the first place and our partners, continues to see EICMA as a winning model and its most important B2B and B2B opportunity in the exhibition sector. The market trend and the economic and social challenges that the lockdown period has imposed on our global sector also oblige us today to take responsibility and to act on a large scale in the interest of exhibitors and our visitors, postponing with a solid convergence of intent the 2020 edition “.

Pietro Meda, president of the board of EICMA, said that the 2021 edition “will be great symbolic value and we hope it will help to make fans and the entire two-wheel chain forget this difficult and exceptional situation “.

Despite the most difficult period linked to the Covid-19 emergency seems to have passed, experts today recommend being cautious and continuing to respect social distancing and anti-contagion safety measures. This is also demonstrated by the decision to cancel EICMA 2020 and postpone the appointment directly to the 2021 edition. We have been talking about it for days now and finally we have come to this choice.

The auto and motorbike sector has suffered really important losses, there is an unprecedented crisis even today, due to the lockdown. The decision taken, although it may be a new blow to the entire two-wheeler sector, which is already suffering a lot, has the aim of protect insiders and visitors. Clearly there is a climate of great despair and profound bitterness for not being able to organize the event regularly, even if the appointment is only postponed. The dates have already been decided, from 9 to 14 November, in the Milan-Rho exhibition center: the organization is already at work.
