Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stated this evening that he does not rule out a return to political life at the end of the seven years since his release from prison and the end of the period of disgrace.
In an interview with the ‘Meet the Press’ program, Olmert said: “Interview me in the first week of July”, so as mentioned, 7 years will pass from the day he was released from prison.
As you may recall, on February 15, 2016, Olmert, now 78 years old, began serving a 19-month prison sentence in the Esyayo prison in Ramla. On September 28, 2016, the Supreme Court ruled in an expanded composition that Olmert will serve a total of 27 months in prison.
On July 2, 2017, after 16 months, he finished serving his prison term following an early release and after the parole board reduced his prison term by a third. President Reuven Rivlin granted Olmert’s request to remove the restrictions placed on him as a prisoner on license.
After his release from prison, in March 2018 he published his autobiographical book, “In the first body”, published by Yediot Books. He also returned to the business world and acts as a mediator in arms deals.
