EHNVs ready to face the challenges of tomorrow

The EHNVs presented their strategic plan for 2021-2026 on Wednesday. A new hospital will be built in Orbe.

“The EHNV will leave the current hospitals of Saint-Loup, Chamblon and Orbe.” The information transmitted yesterday by the management of the Hospital Establishments of the North of Vaud does not contain any great news for those who closely follow the news of the hospital world, but they nonetheless retain a certain amount of symbolism. These three sites are indeed important in the collective imagination of the region and the fact that the EHNVs are leaving cannot be trivial.

“It is an important page in the hospital history of the North of Vaud which will be turned. But financial, technical and normative pressures leave no room for nostalgia: we must move forward, ”confirms Dr Bertrand Vuilleumier, chairman of the EHNV steering committee.

The challenges that await the North Vaud healthcare giant (1,700 employees) have been identified: the increase and aging of the population, as well as the explosion of home care. Therefore, the master plan logically insists on “improving the patient experience by including the medical, nursing and hotel dimensions of the service”.

Or, put another way, yesterday’s hospital is not tomorrow’s. “We are continuing the transformation of a formerly hospital-centered offer in favor of multiple care in which the care takes into account the context of patients’ lives,” explains Jean-François Cardis, CEO of EHNVs.

The great intentions, which were brought to the attention of State Councilor Rebecca Ruiz and her department, are therefore given and it is now up to the management to implement them in the years to come.

Spectacular constructions from 2025

The most visible consequences of the strategic plan will be the transformation work on the Yverdon-les-Bains site and the construction of a new hospital in Orbe, the current one going to be abandoned.

These major works, already announced, will materialize in the second part of this decade, and will make it possible to concentrate the activities of the EHNVs on three sites, compared to five currently.

Acute somatic care will be concentrated in the new hospital in Yverdon-les-Bains, while a new site in Orbe will become the only treatment and rehabilitation center (CTR) in the region.

A “participatory” five-year plan

Jean-François Cardis is Managing Director of EHNVs, a role that he has fully assumed since 2014, having initially performed it ad interim, and he does not see his mission other than in a vision of sharing and “co-governance”. », A fashionable term in Yverdon-les-Bains in this year 2021.

“I expect the members of the Board of Directors to devote themselves fully to their area of expertise, and to be their day-to-day referents, but also to take an interest in the overall running of the company” , explains the general manager. “They have to keep abreast of what’s going on in other areas and I consult with them a lot before making any decisions. In fact, it is very rare that a decision is taken only by me ”, continues Jean-François Cardis. Thus, this “2021-2026 strategic plan” is intended to be “participatory” and “integrated the teams in the development of the plan, so that they become actors of the strategy and that they can identify with it”.

“This strategic plan is truly the result of collective intelligence. It will enable EHNVs to achieve their objectives ”, notes Dr Bertrand Vuilleumier, President.
