EHC Winterthur visited the KEK for the last home game of the regular season. All previous games had already been difficult for the GCK Lions. But this time it was everything for the guests. Thanks to the help of bottom team Bellinzona Rockets, who surprisingly won in Martigny, they managed to qualify for the first time since promotion nine years ago. Three out of four goals were scored by the league’s third-best scorer, Joshua Lawrence. When the score was 0:3 in the final period, 20-year-old Noah Böhler scored a consolation goal.
Then came the trip to the most disappointing team at EHC Visp. This team even applied for promotion to the National League, but was only able to qualify for the playoffs thanks to a 2-0 win against the GCK Lions in the last game.
These games no longer had any influence for the GCK Lions, because fourth place and thus home advantage in the playoffs were already secure. The opponent is now called Sierre, against whom it was close in all five games with a one-goal difference. The best-of-7 series should therefore be completely open.
After third place last year, the GCK Lions confirmed their good performance this time with fourth place. There were also 27 wins in 454 games. The five wins against promotion favorite Olten were particularly impressive. The GCK Lions had to do without their playmaker Victor Backman due to injury for many games in the final phase.
