An early two-goal lead is not enough to win
3:4 (3:2, 0:1, 0:0, 0:1) after extra time: In the home game against EV Landshut, EHC Freiburg only managed one point. After the return of several Covid patients and various canceled games that fell victim to quarantine cases in DEL 2, the ice hockey cracks from Breisgau did not manage to assert themselves against their direct competitors for the pre-playoff places.
While the Wolves’ personnel problems on the offensive gradually ease, large gaps remain at the back end of the ice. Captain Simon Danner and top defenders Nick Pageau and Patrick Kurz are still missing. Nevertheless, EHC and EVL fought an exciting duel in front of 500 admitted spectators on Tuesday evening (01/25/2022).
With two goals, the wolves sensationally took the lead – after 1:43 minutes it was 2:0 for the hosts. However, the Landshut team was finally able to take advantage of a renewed majority situation and reduce it to 1:2 in the person of Max Forster (8th). Before the end of the third, the Breisgauer took the lead again with two goals. Scorer was David Cerny (17th). Two seconds before the siren it was Marco Pfleger from Landshut who shortened again.
In the middle third Stephan Kronthaler even equalized (38th). It stayed that way until the end of the regular 60 minutes of the game. So the decision had to be made in overtime. Here it was Alexander Dotzler who scored the winning goal to make it 4:3 for the guests (64th).
The next game of the wolves will take place regularly on Friday (01/28/2022) at EC Bad Nauheim.
