EHC Freiburg hires 20-year-old defender Hochreither from Berlin

The defensive man had scored the most points of all defenders at the Eisbären Juniors

The squad of EHC Freiburg for the next season in the second German ice hockey league continues to take shape. With the 20-year-old Mick Hochreither, those responsible for the club were able to present another newcomer and player with a support contract on Monday (09.05.2022).

The freshly crowned U20 DNL champion comes from the offspring of the Eisbären Berlin to the wolves in den Breisgau. With his height of 1.92 meters and a weight of 95 kilograms, the defender, from the point of view of the EHC, has everything physically to be able to gain a foothold in the DEL2 after his experience with the juniors.

At his last station with the Eisbären Juniors Berlin, he was able to assert himself as the best defender with 20 points in 41 games. Freiburg’s sports director Peter Salmik emphasizes that he has informed himself well and specifically about Hochreither’s skills.

EHC is convinced of the young player’s ability

He sees him as an up-and-coming prospect who would fit right into the team and into the Wolves philosophy. Head coach Robert Hoffmann also calls him a “super talented defender” about whom he has only heard positive things from all sides.

Hochreither himself said about his move to Freiburg:

I’m really looking forward to the coming season, the Wolves fans, the whole area and most of all, of course, the team. It’s definitely a challenge for me that I’ll happily accept and do whatever I can to help us advance as a team.

With the new personnel, eight players have already signed their contract for the next DEL2 season 2022/23 with EHC Freiburg. In addition to Hochreither, these include Patrick Cerveny, Marvin Neher, Hagen Kaisler, Christian Billich, Calvin Pokorny, Konstantin Bongers and Kevin Orendorz.
