EHC Chur VS EHC Basel

Without a sick goalie duo, Basel secured a 4-3 win in Chur

(Report: Reto Büchler)

In a good, exciting game, EHC Basel fought their way back into the game after a weak start and turned the game in their favor in the final third. Contributing to the success was <a href="https://www.world-today-news.com/ehc-chur-vs-ehc-basel/" title="EHC Chur Vs EHC Basel”>Colin Stauffacher from partner team SC Langenthal, who guarded the goal for Basel for the first time in the Sky Swiss League due to Haller and Henauer’s illness. But not only in the goalkeeper position, but also in the offensive, Basel arrived practically with the last squad. Kummer served his ban from the Thurgau game. Küng and Huber were still missing with injuries and Näf and Füllmann were in action with their A-license clubs. Only defender Törmänen was surplus.

Stauffacher shot warm

Colin Stauffacher did an excellent job and was instrumental in ensuring that his colors were not behind after the first 20 minutes. Of 16 shots at his goal, he fended off 14, some of them miraculous. One hit the crossbar. He had no chance when Ramsauer scored a power play goal. Basel coach Himelfarb was not at all satisfied with his team’s performance at the beginning and was forced to call a timeout after just six minutes. The Grisons ran more, were able to outplay the neutral zone relatively easily and won almost every duel. Basel only had two really good opportunities in the first half. The first after 10 minutes with an individual performance from Stukel. The second in the 19th minute. Sturny passes back to the blue line to Rhyn, who passes the puck directly to Brügger. This one turns and hits the equalizer wonderfully and somewhat flatteringly from medium distance.

Basel countered in the middle section

Clear words must have been spoken in the dressing room. The demeanor was now more decisive, which was promptly rewarded. Finally, a quick attack is triggered by Stukel, who beautifully flicks the disc into the far corner. After that, EHC Basel’s luck ran out of competition. Halberstadt can assert himself on the right wing. His shot hits the post and from there via Nater’s skate into the goal. Seconds later, Zubler supposedly restored the lead. However, the referee correctly disallows the goal due to Rossi’s goalkeeper interference with Riesen. However, the guests smelled a fuse and pressed for the lead. However, Riesen lived up to his name and didn’t concede a goal in the second third. Chur was just waiting for a counterattack. One of them led to 3:2. The ex-Basel Zwissler lays it across to Ramsauer, who shoots straight away and catches Stauffacher between the legs from close range. Basel’s efforts to score an equalizer were not successful until the end of the second third.

Exciting, intense final third

At the beginning, Basel tried very hard to equalize quickly. However, the Graubünden team remained compact and continued to be very defiant. It took until the 46th minute when Brügger got their first chance. Seconds later, Basel were lucky when Marha was unable to benefit from a mistake in the Basel defense. The small penalty against Weber for a check on the knee enabled Basel to score the equalizer. The power play was on when Rossi’s shot was deflected by Sturny, who was standing in front of the Chur goalkeeper. Just seconds later, Canova should have put Graubünden back in the lead, but narrowly failed. This marked the beginning of the exciting final phase. Hot scenes followed in front of both goals, with Basel having the advantage. The decision came three minutes before the end. The Basel team put the Chur team under pressure with good forechecking, which led to the decisive loss of targets. Supinski was able to score the winning goal. However, there were still a few anxious seconds to endure before this was established. With their last effort, Stauffacher and Zubler, lying in their own goal, prevented the equalizer.

EHC Basel will play their next game next Friday at 8:00 p.m. in Küsnacht against the GCK Lions.
