Egypt is completing the first phase of clinical trials of its own vaccine against COVID
–
Nearly two months after the start of clinical trials of the Egyptian covid vaccine COVI-VAX, Dr. Osama Azmi of the National Research Center announced that the volunteers involved were in “stable condition.” “Egypt Today”, quoted by BTA.
According to him, the first phase of trials has largely proven the effectiveness of the vaccine, without any harmful side effects.
Dr. Azmi, who is the director of the National Commission for Clinical Trials, explained that the Egyptian preparation must go through three phases of testing. The first, which is currently taking place, involves 72 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 50, who meet a number of requirements – not to suffer from chronic diseases, not to have surgery, not to suffer from diseases of the immune system and not to have used drugs. They have been thoroughly tested to make sure they are not infected with the coronavirus and have not been vaccinated.
The second phase will last about 60 days and will involve five hundred volunteers, and the third phase will involve several thousand. Azmi called on citizens to take part in clinical trials, stressing that before receiving COWI-WAX, they will undergo extensive medical examinations and be insured.
Once all phases are completed, the Egyptian vaccine will be able to receive approval from health authorities to be administered alongside currently available vaccines in the country, he added.
