Egyptian Tugboats Successfully Tow Oil Tanker Out of Suez Canal, Resuming Asia-Europe Shipping Route

Three Egyptian tugboats towed away an oil tanker with engine trouble in the Suez Canal. That tanker was blocking traffic in the shortest shipping route between Asia and Europe. Traffic in both directions has now resumed.

This is reported by the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), which supervises shipping traffic in the canal.

The oil tanker named Seavigour, flying the Maltese flag, was on its way from Russia to China.

It is more common for traffic to be disrupted due to technical failures. These interruptions are usually short-lived. Less than two weeks ago, for example, tugboats managed to move a ship that had been stuck for several hours.
