“Egyptian Suez Canal Authority Successfully Refloats Grounded Ship Xin Hai Tong 23 in Record Time”

The Egyptian Suez Canal Authority succeeded in refloating a large ship that disrupted navigation in the canal, one hour and 16 minutes after it ran aground, according to the shipping company (Leith Agencies), Thursday.

The company said the ship, Xin Hai Tong 23, is a bulk carrier with a length of 190 meters.

On Thursday morning, the shipping agent (Leith Agnes) announced that a ship had run aground in the Suez Canal in Egypt, “leaving behind” at least 4 ships.

The company added that tugboats are trying to refloat the vessel, named Shen Hai Tong 23.

“Shen Haitong 23 ran aground in the Suez Canal at km 159/04:00,” Leith Aegis said in a tweet, adding that she “left behind four ships from the early convoy in addition to the regular group that was scheduled to enter the Suez Canal at about It’s 06:00.”

MarineTraffic’s ship-tracking data for Refinitiv showed that the vessel, which was flying a Hong Kong flag, was unable to move near the southern end of the canal and parked at an angle next to the eastern side of the canal.
