The Egyptian President’s advisor for health affairs, Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, revealed the details of the epidemiological situation of the Corona virus in the country, after the official announcement of the emergence of the new variant, “EG 5”.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced, on Tuesday, the monitoring of two cases of infection with the new variant of the Corona virus, known as “EG 5.2”, which recently appeared in a number of countries in the world.
“The mutation of the Corona virus is expected and not surprising to the health authorities in Egypt or the world, as this is from the nature of respiratory viruses in general,” Tag El-Din said in statements to “Sky News Arabia”.
He pointed out that “although the World Health Organization declared the end of considering Corona a pandemic, the virus itself did not end.”
The health advisor to the Egyptian president outlined the details of the current situation in a number of points:
The two cases of the new variant had mild symptoms and were recovering. Studies have shown that the new “EG 5” variant is more prevalent, but less dangerous in disease severity. The most common symptoms of corona currently are pain in the throat, mild cracking in the body, cold and runny nose, and high temperatures. These symptoms quickly end within two days, with the necessity of using medications that help reduce the temperature. There are no serious complications, deaths, anxiety, or cause for fear of the new mutant, as there are no cases of hospitalization or serious cases reported. There is no change in the vaccination system with Corona vaccines, except for the need for the most dangerous groups to receive a booster dose, and they are those with chronic diseases, patients with tumors and immunodeficiencies, and the elderly. There is no intention to take any additional precautionary measures in Egypt, but attention should be paid to the need to take care of those infected with this variant not to mix during the disease period.
What about the condition of the injured?
The results of the analyzes at the Egyptian Ministry of Health revealed that two cases of the Corona virus of the “EG 5” strain were positive, and the clinical symptoms that appeared on them are mild symptoms and they are recovering. The Ministry said that it implements an accurate system for monitoring acute respiratory diseases nationwide, with the aim of early detection of the causes of the disease and knowing any changes in the factors of infection. Taking “throat and nose” swabs from cases that meet the definition of the case, and an examination for influenza, corona, and mixed respiratory virus is carried out for all samples. There are no medical recommendations to take any additional measures, and that medical recommendations are still vaccination with booster doses, especially for groups most affected by the disease, such as the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and diseases that affect the body’s immune system response.
