Egyptian Military Confirms Drones from Red Sea, Israel Blames Houthis

The military spokesman for the Egyptian Armed Forces said on Friday that investigations into two incidents of two foreign objects falling showed that they were drones coming from the southern Red Sea, at a time when Israel said that the Houthi militias were the ones who launched them to target its territory.

The statement revealed that after analyzing and collecting information related to the two incidents, it became clear that two drones were heading from the south of the Red Sea to the north, and when one of them was targeted outside Egyptian airspace in the Gulf of Aqaba region, some of its debris fell in an uninhabited area in Nuweiba, while the second fell in Taba.

At the conclusion of the brief statement, the Egyptian military spokesman, Gharib Abdel Hafez, said, “The Air Force and Air Defense Forces are intensifying the work of securing Egyptian airspace in all strategic directions.”

Earlier, Friday, the Egyptian army reported that six people were injured as a result of an “unidentified march falling” on Thursday night in the Egyptian city of Taba, which borders Israel.

Reuters quoted two Egyptian security sources as saying that another object fell near a power station in Nuweiba, which is located about 70 kilometers from the border.

Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee said earlier that Israel had detected “in recent hours an air threat in the Red Sea region, and warplanes were called in to deal with it.”

Then the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the missiles and drones that struck Egypt were launched by the Houthi group and were targeting Israel.

The ministry spokesman said in a statement, “Israel denounces the damage caused to the Egyptian security forces as a result of the missiles and drones launched by the terrorist Houthi organization with the aim of harming Israel.”
