Egyptian Foreign Minister Urges Respect for International Humanitarian Law and Calls for End to Israeli-Palestinian Conflict amid Gaza Crisis

In part of a telephone interview by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry with CNN, regarding the current events on the Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Minister answered a question asked by broadcaster Wolf, about the summary of Egypt’s message to the United States at the present time after talks with his American counterpart, Anthony. Blinken, saying that Egypt calls for the necessity of respecting international humanitarian law and addressing the difficult conditions experienced by Palestinian civilians.
He added that there is a great need to protect civilians as the death toll mounts in Gaza. He said: “We need to contain this, and we hope to see a way out of the quagmire and return to dealing with the issue of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ending the occupation.”

In a question about any peaceful solution that will emerge anytime soon as a result of what is happening in Gaza now, the Egyptian Foreign Minister answered, saying: “We are always optimistic and always call for peace in the region to find a solution that depends on international legitimacy and international consensus on the two-state solution.”
