Egyptian Efforts to Open Rafah Crossing and Provide Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Amidst Crisis

Minister Shukri added in statements to BBC Radio that the Rafah crossing has not been officially closed by the Egyptian authorities since the beginning of the crisis in the Gaza Strip.

He stressed that work is underway with all parties to reach an agreement to send aid to the Gaza Strip, saying: “We are in constant contact in Egypt with United Nations organizations to find a way to open a safe passage for humanitarian aid, but to this moment no agreement has been reached with the other side on the crossing.”

He continued: “Israel’s call for displacement to the south completely contradicts international humanitarian law, and leaving people without water, electricity, and food also violates international laws.”

Shukri said on Monday that the Israeli government has not yet taken a position that would allow the opening of the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

Shukri added that since the outbreak of the conflict, Egypt has aimed to continue operating the Rafah crossing, describing the situation facing the Palestinian people in Gaza as dangerous.

This comes as the Egyptian and international aid convoy arrived at the Rafah crossing, awaiting its opening after waiting for 3 days in the nearby city of Al-Arish.

It should be noted that the Egyptian aid convoy heading to Gaza includes 120 large trucks carrying tons of food supplies, and 300,000 packages of medicine, clothes, and relief tents, as two officials of the convoy revealed to Sky News Arabia earlier.
