Egyptian Actress Kariman Muhammad Selim: A Legacy in Cinema and Family

She presented about 30 cinematic works, most notably “Tamr Henna,” “My Mirror, Director General,” and “Sukar Hanem,” before she announced her retirement at the end of the sixties and got married.

Egyptian artist Kariman passed away on Tuesday morning, at the age of 87, after a long struggle with illness, and her body will be buried on Wednesday afternoon.

Kariman Muhammad Selim was born in Cairo in 1936 to a father of Lebanese roots and an Egyptian-Turkish mother. During her childhood, she participated in radio work, before heading to cinema in the fifties and sixties.

The news of her death was announced by her only son, Sherine Mahdi, and he wrote on Facebook: “My dearly beloved mother has passed away, to God’s mercy. The late, God willing, Hajja Kariman Muhammad Salim Al-Osta.”

The late artist was married to the late Egyptian MP Mahmoud Abu Al-Nasr, former head of the Planning and Budget Committee of the People’s Assembly.

Her son revealed that the funeral will be held at noon on Wednesday in the Mohandiseen area, and that she will be buried in the family cemetery in the 6th of October area.

Kariman did not complete her journey in the world of art, as she presented about 30 cinematic works, most notably “Tamar Henna,” “My Mirror is a General Manager,” and “Sukar Hanem,” before she announced her retirement at the end of the sixties and got married.

Kariman then wore the hijab, gave birth to her only son, Sherine, had 4 grandchildren, and was busy with her family, before she finally passed away after a struggle with illness.
