Egypt: Tourists attacked with a knife in Tampa – 2024-08-31 10:55:42

A number of tourists were attacked with a knife today in the city of Tampa, Egypt, on the border with Israel, Reuters reported, citing the Egyptian television network Al-Qahera News which did not give further details.

A post on Platform X by the Middle East Observer says initial reports are of several wounded heading to the crossing point after the attack, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

Six people were injured during the attack, which is believed to be criminally motivated.

The fight took place between several Israelis and hotel employees, according to the first reports.

The Jerusalem Post writes that many army forces are gathering at the site, including the Egyptian police. Israeli media reported six victims with head and stab wounds. The Israeli first aid service Magen David Adom and ambulance crews are currently waiting at the border.

So far the exact causes and motives that led to the attack are being investigated.

Reuters reports that the victims are three Israeli and two Egyptian hotel employees.
