Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian government announced, on Tuesday, that a train had derailed and collided with part of the platform at the Qalyub train station, north of Cairo, causing casualties.
The Ministry of Health said, in a statement on the initial toll of the accident victims on its Facebook page, that the train accident resulted in two deaths and 16 injuries, including 3 patients who received service at the accident site, and 3 patients who left the emergency department at Qalyub Specialist Hospital, after receiving medical service. Their health condition improved, and the rest of the injured receive service in the same hospital, and she added that she had sent 20 ambulances.
For its part, the Ministry of Transport stated, in a statement, on its Facebook page, that the Railways Authority said that “at exactly 19:20, while entering the train at Qalyub station to meet another train, the driver bypassed the closed semaphore and continued walking, which led to the train entering the tracks ending in a protection collision.” At the end of the railway, and as a result, the tractor and the first cart derailed, and you notice that the injuries occurred to individuals who were outside the first cart of the train and were riding the train between the cart and the tractor.
And the Public Prosecution announced, in a statement, via Facebook, that “the Public Prosecutor ordered the formation of a team to investigate the Qalyub train collision,” and added that it “will continue to announce the results of the investigation.”
