Israeli sources revealed that Egypt submitted a new proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip, on Friday evening.
The sources said that the Egyptian proposal includes a mutual cessation of attacks and a commitment to avoid harming civilians.
She explained that the proposal is currently being studied by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Egypt recently sought through mediation efforts to stop the mutual shelling.
Two Islamic Jihad officials and a foreign diplomat told Reuters that Cairo hosted Mohamed al-Hindi, head of the movement’s political department, on Thursday, as part of mediation efforts to end the fighting.
But Israel announced earlier on Friday that it would stop the truce talks.
Subsequently, the Israeli air raids continued on the Gaza Strip, and in return, new bursts of missiles were launched towards the Israeli settlements near Gaza and even near Tel Aviv.
