Egypt, which started manufacturing vaccines from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, plans to carry out 1 billion anticovid doses a year, which would make it “the largest producer of vaccines in the Middle East and Africa.”

Following an agreement with the Chinese company, two plants in Cairo are responsible for producing the immunizer.

As Health Minister Hala Zayed explained to the press on Wednesday, one of the production plants will reach a rate of “more than 200 million doses per year”, which “covers national needs”; while the other factory will produce “three million doses a day, that is, around 1,000 million a year”, which would allow it to meet the needs of Africa and export.

“We have obtained permission from the Egyptian Medicines Authority and one million doses have already been distributed in Egypt,” added Dr. Heba Wali, in charge of the project.

Chinese experts recently visited Egypt to inspect equipment and materials for the production of Sinovac vaccine at the factories of the state pharmaceutical group Vacsera.

Officially, in Egypt (more than 102 million inhabitants) 288,441 cases of covid-19 have been detected to date, 16,736 of which are fatal. Some 7.5 million Egyptians received at least one dose of some type of anticovid vaccine.
