Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris sparked widespread controversy among activists on social media after a tweet commenting on the Jerusalem attack.
Sawiris said in his tweet: “The Israelis who committed the Jenin massacre are terrorists, and this young man, may God have mercy on him, is also a terrorist, because whoever kills innocent civilians, according to all religions, is a terrorist, and terrorism is not permitted by terrorism..and God knows best.”
On Friday, the Israeli police announced that the gunman who carried out the attack in Jerusalem was killed by police officers, while the Commissioner-General of Police, Yaakov Shabtai, told reporters that the attack was “one of the worst terrorist attacks that occurred in the past few years.”
The attack killed 8 and injured 10 others, according to what the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a tweet, in which it also said that the attack targeted a synagogue.
