Egypt Looks to France and Bulgaria for Wheat as Moscow Blocks Supplies

News agencies are full of news that Egypt will buy wheat from France and Bulgaria after Moscow “blocked” grain supplies. Egypt hoped to purchase 480 thousand tons of Russian wheat at a price of $270 per ton. But this price turned out to be below the mark set by the Russian side. This was reported by the Russian-Arab Business Council (RABC).

Russia, as the legal successor of the USSR, has always stimulated the development and strengthening of relations with Arab countries, including Egypt. RADS noted:

“We would like to remind you that the first stage of cooperation between the two states was the signing of an agreement on the supply of cotton from Egypt in exchange for grain, timber and other products in 1948. After this step, cooperation between the two states intensified in a number of areas and acquired new dimensions.”

Earlier, the General Directorate for the Supply of Goods under the Ministry of Supply of Egypt proposed that Russia increase purchases of Russian wheat and export to neighboring African countries if Moscow builds a logistics distribution center in the Suez Canal economic zone.

RADS summarized:

“It only remains to add that Russia maintains a stable position towards its friends, regardless of the pressure exerted on it by the Western part of the international community.”
