Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Minister of Health for Institutional Development told Al-Sharq: We have received local, regional and foreign offers to build hospitals on 10 plots of land in different governments and we are examining them in preparation for implementation.

He explained that 90% of the drug shortage crisis in Egypt has been resolved, and that factories are currently operating at maximum capacity.
Abdel Ghaffar confirmed that the level of medicine shortages has decreased every day since last June after raw materials were given to factories, and citizens are now seeing an improvement in getting medicine.
Total exports of $432.2 million of human preparations and medical supplies
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Authority of Egypt, confirmed that Egypt’s total exports of human preparations and medical products to countries around the world from the beginning of the year to the end of March 2024 comes to 432.2 million dollars.
Al-Ghamrawi said that the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt is largely dependent on private sector companies, whether local or international.
He pointed out that the private sector produces about 93% of the total production of local medicines, distributed 74% to local companies and 26% to international companies present in Egypt, while and that the government sector contributes only about 7% of the local production, and that the total local product represents about 91%.

While Egypt’s total export of human preparations and medical supplies to countries around the world in March 2024 was about $148.2 million, which is an increase from the monthly average of about $144.1 million.
He continued: Thanks to the directives of the political leadership, the Egyptian pharmaceutical market saw a remarkable positive growth in the previous period. The market size increased to more than 215 billion pounds in 2023, compared to about 40 billion pounds in 2014.
He pointed out that the public and private sectors have contributed significantly to achieving self-sufficiency in the Egyptian pharmaceutical market, as the level of self-coverage reaches 91% of the market’s total sales, which shows the ability to meet the needs of the local market and to control supply and demand, and the remaining percentage of sales is covered, Which amounts to only 9% through finished preparations which was introduced.
